National Sports Commission on Monday, received a joint delegation from International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) at the NSC Headquarters in Abuja for a working engagement with the Chairman of the Commission, Shehu Dikko to start off the FIFA/CAF assessment team visit to Nigeria.
Discussions centred on on the objectives for the comprehensive reforms of Nigeria football to reset the ecosystem with issues of Legal structures, governance, development, stakeholder collaboration and practical solutions for strengthening Nigerian football generally being central to the discussions.
Chairman Shehu Dikko stressed the importance of collaboration among Government, FIFA, CAF, NFF and other stakeholders in advancing the development of the game in Nigeria.
FIFA representative Rolf Tanner explained that the delegation’s mission is simply to listen to stakeholders on a broad based engagements, the proposed reforms roadmap and assess the current situation before taking it’s findings back to FIFA leadership.
The engagement provided an opportunity for dialogue and constructive engagements on the way forward for Nigerian football, with all parties expressing the importance of continued collaboration in the interest of the game.
During the visit the FIFA/CAF delegation would engage with NFF administration, representatives of the members of the NFF (States FA’s, Leagues, Players, Coaches, Referees etc), and other representatives of key stakeholders like former NFF Presidents and GS, Club owners, sponsors, and other experts etc, so all relevant views/suggestions can be aggregated.
FIFA would engage in a final technical meeting with the NSC representatives on Tuesday 15th September to conclude the visit.
