The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has entered a new phase of uncertainty after its President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, and members of the Executive Committee resigned from office.
The federation announced the development on Thursday through its official X account but did not disclose the reasons behind the mass resignations. The unexpected departures have left Nigerian football without its existing leadership structure at a crucial period for the federation.
The resignations come amid reports that the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) are investigating allegations involving some NFF officials, although no findings have been made public.
A security source maintained that the investigation relates to national security matters and is separate from financial issues, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The NFF has yet to respond to the reported probe or clarify who will oversee its affairs pending the emergence of a new leadership.
Attention has also shifted to the federation’s board election scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, with questions emerging over whether it will proceed as planned. Football stakeholders are now awaiting an official statement from the NFF on the transition process and the future direction of the country’s football administration.
