Days After NYSC Resumption, Female Corps Member Dies In Ibadan Trailer Accident

A serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Oluwatosin Abidakun, has died in a road crash involving a trailer in Ibadan, Oyo State, just days after she resumed her place of primary assignment at the state House of Assembly.

Abidakun was reportedly returning home on a motorcycle with another corps member when an articulated truck crashed into them around Agodi Gardens in Ibadan North Local Government Area on Monday.

She died at the scene of the accident, while the other corps member sustained injuries and was taken to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for medical treatment.

The incident has thrown colleagues and officials into mourning, with the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, describing her death as a painful and devastating loss.

Ogundoyin said the corps member’s death was heartbreaking because she had only started her national service with dreams and expectations for the future.

He commiserated with Abidakun’s family, friends and colleagues, while praying for the quick recovery of the injured corps member.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses said the trailer driver allegedly hit some vehicles around the Sango area before heading towards Agodi Gardens, where the fatal crash occurred.

One of the eyewitnesses claimed that the driver was trying to escape after the earlier collisions, leading some motorists affected by the incident to pursue him.

The Oyo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kehinde Dahunsi, confirmed the crash and said the female corps member died while the injured victim was evacuated to UCH.
