Delta 2027: Omo-Agege Camp Accuses Aguariavwodo of Failure, Predicts Massive Support for NDC

The media team of former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has dismissed claims by Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo that the Urhobo people will vote massively for Senator Ede Dafinone and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

In a statement signed by Godwin Anaughe, Special Adviser on Strategy and Communications to Omo-Agege, the group described Aguariavwodo’s remarks as misleading and said the former Deputy Senate President has a long list of achievements to present to voters.

The statement said Omo-Agege facilitated major federal projects in Delta Central, including the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, the Defence Space School, Orogun, the Oil and Gas Industrial Park at Eku-Sanubi, and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Kwale.

According to the statement, Omo-Agege also secured hundreds of federal jobs for Deltans, supported the legal framework for the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), built more than 400 classrooms, installed over 10,000 solar streetlights, and executed several road, water, electricity and ICT projects across Urhoboland.

The media team further claimed that more than 100 constituency projects were completed in Ughelli South, including transformers, solar streetlights, water schemes, ICT centres and school projects.

The statement criticised Aguariavwodo’s public service record, arguing that despite occupying several key positions, including Senator, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chairman of the Niger Delta River Basin Authority and adviser to successive Delta State governors, he left behind little to show for his years in office.

It also alleged that Aguariavwodo failed to attract significant development projects to his constituency while serving in the Senate.

The statement said, “The main transformer powering Okpare-Olomu today, the same one lighting Aguariavwodo’s own house where he sat to insult Omo-Agege, was installed by Omo-Agege. The man could not even light his own house.”

On the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, the media team argued that Omo-Agege succeeded in passing the establishment law after previous efforts had stalled.

It also credited Omo-Agege with facilitating shoreline protection works at Egbo-Ide through the Ecological Fund Office and providing solar streetlights and classroom projects in parts of Ughelli South.

The statement also criticised Senator Ede Dafinone, claiming he had not recorded significant legislative or constituency achievements since assuming office.

On the politics of Delta Central, the Omo-Agege camp accused Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of pursuing what it described as an unfair concentration of political offices in one area, insisting that power should rotate fairly among Urhobo communities.

The statement added that the large political rally held in Ughelli on October 4 demonstrated widespread support for Omo-Agege and the New Delta Congress (NDC), dismissing Aguariavwodo’s recent political meeting as lacking broad representation.

“Come 2027, Urhobo will indeed vote massively, but massively for Peter Obi for President, Ovie Omo-Agege for Senate, Chris Iyovware for Governor and all NDC candidates, to reclaim Urhobo pride, dignity and destiny,” the statement concluded.
