Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to remain hopeful and united despite the nation’s mounting socio-economic challenges, saying the lessons of Eid-el-Kabir should inspire citizens to embrace sacrifice, compassion and faith in a better future.
In his Eid-el-Kabir message released on Wednesday, Obi congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the world on the celebration, describing the festival as a sacred period that reflects obedience to God, love for humanity and selflessness.
“I warmly felicitate with the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria and across the world as they celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, a sacred occasion that embodies the timeless virtues of faith, sacrifice, obedience to God, compassion, and love for humanity,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor urged Nigerians to use the Sallah season as a moment of prayer, reflection and renewed commitment to national unity.
“Let us focus our prayers on unity and hope at this year’s Sallah,” Obi stated.
According to him, the deeper lessons of Eid-el-Kabir remain relevant to Nigeria’s current realities, especially at a time many citizens are grappling with economic hardship and insecurity.
“As we reflect on the profound lessons of this solemn celebration, we are reminded of the need for selflessness, tolerance, and commitment to the common good. These values are especially important at this critical period of our national journey,” he said.
Obi acknowledged that Nigeria is passing through difficult times but maintained that citizens must not lose faith in the country’s future.
“Nigeria is a nation of immense potential, currently weighed down by avoidable challenges, but the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir teaches us that after sacrifice comes fulfilment. We must never lose hope in the possibility of a functional, just, and productive nation where no citizen is left behind,” he added.
He also called for prayers and support for security personnel battling insecurity across the country, while appealing for wisdom among political leaders and urgent economic relief for struggling Nigerians.
“Let us use this sacred period to pray for our security forces on the frontlines, for wisdom for our leaders, and for meaningful economic relief for the masses who continue to bear the burden of our collective difficulties,” Obi said.
The former presidential candidate further appealed to Nigerians to embrace peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and tolerance across religious and ethnic divides.
“Let us also recommit ourselves to peace, mutual respect, and unity across faiths and regions,” he noted.
Obi prayed that the Eid-el-Kabir celebration would bring joy, peace and renewed optimism to Nigerians and their families.
“May this Eid-el-Kabir bring joy to our families, peace to our communities, and renewed hope to our dear nation. I wish all our Muslim brothers and sisters a blessed and joyful Eid-el-Kabir celebration,” he said.
