FG Moves to Boost Food Production, Sets Up Committee to Fast-Track Agricultural Reforms

VP Kashim Shettima

The Federal Government has set up a technical committee to speed up agricultural interventions aimed at improving food production and strengthening food security across Nigeria.

The committee will focus on increasing wheat production, livestock development and other staple crops across the country.

Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurated the committee on Tuesday during a high-level meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He urged members to work together and develop practical strategies that would quickly improve the agricultural sector.

The committee includes representatives from key ministries, government agencies and agricultural institutions.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, said the meeting also reviewed challenges facing farmers and ways to expand dry-season farming.

He said President Bola Tinubu had directed the Vice President to identify obstacles slowing agricultural growth and find lasting solutions.

Kyari added that the committee would coordinate efforts across relevant agencies before submitting its recommendations to the Vice President and the President.

Technical Adviser to the Vice President on Agriculture, Ms Marion Moon, stressed that the Federal, State and Local Governments must work together to achieve better results.
She said stronger coordination among the three tiers of government would help improve food production and deliver lasting food security across Nigeria.
