A Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja has convicted a former banker, Chukwuebuka Nweke, for bank fraud involving the unlawful withdrawal of ₦1 million from a customer’s account. Justice Ismail Ijelu delivered the judgment after finding him guilty of the offence.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said Nweke illegally accessed a desktop computer assigned to a colleague, Emmanuella Anyanwu, on June 21, 2025. The Commission said he used the unauthorised access to facilitate the withdrawal of ₦1 million from the account of Leelee Dumbari in a new generation bank.
Following investigations, the EFCC arraigned him on a one-count charge of unlawful withdrawal of funds.
Although Nweke pleaded not guilty, the case proceeded to full trial. The prosecution presented five witnesses to prove its case, while the defence called one witness.
After reviewing the evidence, Justice Ijelu found the former banker guilty as charged. The court sentenced him to pay a fine of ₦1 million within 30 days.
The judge ruled that if he fails to pay the fine, he will serve six months in a Correctional Centre.
The EFCC said the conviction followed its investigation and prosecution of the bank fraud case.
