Proprietor of Cross Creek Golf Club of Ilado in Akure, Ondo State, Sola Abidakun, has said the game of Golf is not only for a certain class of the society.

Abidakun stated this on Sunday in Akure when he hosted members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ondo State Chapter, on a familiarisation visit to the golf course.

The legal practitioner said golf was meant for all categories of people, irrespective of class and status.

“Let me use this opportunity to inform you, and dissuade people that the game of golf is only for the rich, it is not true.

“It is for everyone, irrespective of class or financial status, all that is needed is interest,” he said.

Abidakun encouraged members of the sports writing profession to get involved in the game by leveraging on the available opportunity and facilities at the Ilado golf course.

According to him, the benefits of the game are too numerous to mention, which ranges from mental and physical health condition.

He appealed to the state government to help bridge the infrastructural gaps in the area, especially the road leading to the golf course, which according to him, is in deplorable condition.

Abidakun used the opportunity to also enjoin the state government to put the state owned golf course in Idanre in good condition to further promote the economy of the state and it’s people.

He said the Cross Creek Golf Club would host a competition that would attract more professional players in March, which would in turn boost the economy of the state.

Also, the Captain of the golf course, Mr Isaac Shedowo, said the game of golf was good and patterned towards the reality of life.

According to him, the game is about planning, precision and seriousness.

Responding, the Chairman of SWAN, Mr Segun Giwa, appreciated the proprietor and the entire club members for the opportunity to know more about the game.

Giwa assured the club of support from sports writers and regular interface with the club
