INEC Assures Nigerians of Free, Fair Elections, Says BVAS, Ballot Materials Ready

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reassured Nigerians and the international community of its commitment to conducting a free, fair and credible 2027 General Election.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, gave the assurance on Tuesday during a national stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja to mark 100 days to the first ballot.

He said the Commission has moved from planning to full implementation of its election preparations.

According to him, election materials are being produced, technology is undergoing quality checks and staff are receiving training across the country.

Amupitan said the Commission remains neutral and is determined to protect the integrity of every vote.

He described the 100-day countdown as a call for all stakeholders to work together for peaceful, transparent and credible elections.

The INEC chairman said previous off-cycle elections and bye-elections helped the Commission test and improve its election processes.

He disclosed that 10,772,421 new voters were registered, bringing Nigeria’s total voter register to about 103 million.

He said the voter register will be displayed for public scrutiny from October 9 to 15, while Phase One PVC distribution will also begin on October 9.

Amupitan revealed that 18 political parties submitted 36 presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 election.

He also said production of 57,000 new BVAS machines is at an advanced stage, while ballot papers and result sheets are almost ready for printing.

The INEC chairman appealed for the timely release of the remaining election funds to ensure the successful completion of all outstanding preparations.
