NANS Pledges 10 Million Votes for Tinubu in 2027, Backs NELFUND, Education Reforms

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has pledged to mobilise 10 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general elections.

NANS President, Comrade Akinteye Afeez, made the declaration on Wednesday during a meeting between national student leaders and Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Afeez said the association had established a National Election Mobilisation Committee to mobilise support for Tinubu across the six geopolitical zones.

He said Nigerian students identify with the Renewed Hope administration because of its programmes and policies, especially in the education sector.

According to him, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has given many students hope by making higher education more accessible despite financial challenges.

Afeez said the student body would continue to support the education loan scheme and work for its continuity and sustainability.

He added that NANS believes the administration deserves a second term because of its commitment to improving access to education.

The student leader said Nigerian students remain one of the country’s largest voting blocs and are prepared to speak with one voice during the 2027 elections.

He described NELFUND as a major intervention that has prevented many students from dropping out of school due to financial hardship.

Afeez said the association’s support was based on what it described as the government’s achievements and not on empty promises.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, in his remarks, urged Nigerian students to see themselves as active participants in nation-building and not only as leaders of tomorrow.

He said the Tinubu administration would continue to prioritise education, student welfare and youth inclusion while working to end disruptions caused by recurring strikes in tertiary institutions.

Shettima also encouraged student leaders to engage the government honestly, even when they disagree with its policies.

Leaders of the National Association of University Students, National Association of Polytechnic Students and National Association of Nigerian Colleges of Education Students were also present at the meeting.

The meeting formed part of the Federal Government’s engagement with student leaders on education reforms, youth inclusion and national development.
