2027: NDC Gives Peter Obi, Kwankwaso Full Control Of Presidential Campaign Council Appointments
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it will soon inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) after concluding consultations with its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The party said the two candidates have been given the responsibility of nominating key officials who will drive the presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement on Monday, the NDC said Obi and Kwankwaso had held several meetings with the party’s National Leader and other members of the leadership as part of efforts to finalise the campaign structure.
The party disclosed that the presidential candidate and his running mate would nominate the Director-General of the Campaign, Deputy Director-General (North), Campaign Spokesman, Deputy Spokesman, Head of New Media, Finance Director, Deputy Finance Director and several other officials in consultation with the party.
It added that the party leadership had given the candidates a free hand to make the nominations.
The statement further explained that the Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director would work with the National Treasurer to manage all campaign funds in line with the Electoral Act, with emphasis on transparency and accountability.
According to the party, a complete organogram for the campaign had been prepared since August and forwarded to Obi and Kwankwaso for their input, while nominations had also been received from stakeholders across the country.
The NDC said: “The party wishes to assure the public that as soon as we receive the inputs of our Presidential Candidate and his Vice, the NDC shall proceed to announce and inaugurate the same.”
It added: “We have also proposed a campaign timetable since August, and we are waiting to conclude arrangements for the funding and fundraising for the campaign, to be spearheaded by the candidates. The money raised shall be paid into the presidential campaign account to be managed by officers nominated by the presidential candidate and his running mate, as well as the party national treasurer.”
The party also explained that the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council, earlier scheduled for the first week of September, was postponed because of the travel schedule of the presidential candidate.
The NDC appealed to all its candidates and support groups to remain united and avoid internal disputes as preparations for the election gather momentum.
It said: “There are no battles to fight within the NDC. The common opponent to defeat is the ruling APC. We are committed as a party. The party has done its own and is ready to do more. The candidates and their supporters are encouraged to do the same.”
The statement concluded: “Our candidates should keep their eyes on the ball and focus on winning.”
The party also urged all its candidates at every level to work together to secure victory at the polls, stressing that they are contesting under one political platform.
