The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has arrested two women, aged 48 and 50, over the production of adulterated fruit juice in Badagry.
The Command’s Civil Defence Public Relations Officer, SC Oluwaseun Abolurin, announced this in a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday in Lagos.
CS Abolurim said the suspects were arrested following a five-day surveillance operation conducted in collaboration with an Army formation in the area.
He said the suspects were reportedly producing “Barkas Juice” using water, artificial flavourings, sweeteners, colourants and other additives.
The NSCDC spokesman listed the items recovered to include a truck, cartons of the juice, production machinery, chemicals, drums and a gas cylinder.
He noted that the product was manufactured under unhygienic conditions and distributed to markets in Lagos, Benin City and other parts of the country, using a purported fake NAFDAC registration number : 01 – 2166L .
He quoted the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC ), Lagos State Command, Adedotun Keshinro, as saying that the suspects would undergo further investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law.
