No Planned Protest Over Insecurity, Kwankwaso Clarifies

Former Kano State Governor and Vice Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has distanced himself and his party from reports circulating on social media alleging plans to organise a protest over the worsening security situation in the country.

In a statement issued on Monday, Kwankwaso described the message as false and urged Nigerians to disregard it, insisting that neither he nor the NDC had endorsed any protest as claimed by the authors of the viral post.

“Our attention has been drawn to a message currently circulating on social media falsely claiming that we are planning a protest over the rising insecurity in the country,” he said.

The former governor stressed that he does not support actions capable of disrupting public peace or resulting in the destruction of lives and property, noting that national challenges should be addressed through lawful and constructive means.

“We do not support any action that could lead to the breakdown of public order or the destruction of lives and property. As responsible leaders, we remain committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national challenges,” Kwankwaso stated.

He reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles, arguing that elections remain the most credible avenue through which citizens can express dissatisfaction and seek political change.

“As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change,” he said.

Kwankwaso also expressed confidence in the electoral prospects of the NDC, saying the party was focused on winning future elections through democratic engagement rather than street protests.

“Our party, the NDC, is confident of securing a resounding victory in the upcoming elections through peaceful democratic means,” he added.

The NDC chieftain subsequently urged members of the public to ignore the message and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of misleading citizens.

“The general public is therefore advised to disregard the false message and ignore those peddling such disinformation,” the statement concluded.

The clarification comes amid growing public concerns over security challenges across parts of the country and heightened political activities ahead of future electoral contests.
