Obaseki, deputy felicitate with Oba of Benin on Igue Festival

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu on Friday, congratulated the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, on the occasion of the annual Igue Festival in Benin on Thursday.

The governor said: “On the joyous occasion of the 2023 Igue festival, I extend my heartfelt felicitations to His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin.

“In the spirit of the season, I pray for continued peace, progress and prosperity for all Edo people. Iselogbe!!! Oba gha to kpere ise!,” he said.

Also, in a statement, the state deputy governor while congratulating the Oba, affirmed his reverence and loyalty.

Shaibu noted that the Benin royal family and the good people of great Benin Kingdom had over the years, celebrated the historic festival as part of the traditional end of year activities to usher in the new year.

“I am profoundly delighted to congratulate His Royal Majesty on this momentous occasion of the 2023 annual Ugie festival”.

“The age-long festival has become a glamorous event for showcasing the rich cultural and traditional heritage of Benin Kingdom to the world.

“Ugie festival has, over the years, provided a veritable platform for resident and people of the Benin to interact, socialize, promote love and mutual coexistence.

“As our great king, my own highly revered father celebrates in grand style, manifesting the majestic splendour and grandeur royalty of historic nobility, it is heartwarming to express my royal felicitations to Umogun.

“It is my heartfelt prayers that the Almighty Creator and the indomitable ancestors of the great Benin Kingdom continue to grant you good health, sound mind, wisdom and longevity on the ancient throne of your forebears”.

“Your Majesty, be rest assured of my reverence and unalloyed loyalty to the sacred throne and traditional stool of Benin Kingdom.

“Oba Gha To ‘ Kpere, lse!,” Shaibu added.

In her congratulatory message to the Oba, the deputy speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mrs Maria Edeko wished the King a long life and prosperity.
