Former Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana escaped unhurt after being involved in a road traffic accident in Turkey, just hours after helping Trabzonspor record a 2-0 victory over Hearts in the UEFA Conference League.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper was reportedly driving home with his family through the Yomra district of Trabzon when another vehicle crashed into the rear of his silver SUV at high speed, forcing it into another car and causing a multi-vehicle collision.
Photos from the scene showed visible damage to the front of Onana’s vehicle, with debris littering the road after the crash.
Onana and his family were taken to hospital for medical checks, but they were later discharged after doctors confirmed they had not suffered any serious injuries.
Confirming the incident, Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan said, “André Onana was involved in a road traffic accident earlier this evening. There are no problems with him, and we wish him a speedy recovery.”
Club officials also visited the scene shortly after the accident to assess the situation.
The former Manchester United shot-stopper is expected to return to action for Trabzonspor’s Turkish league match against Rizespor on Monday, subject to the club’s final medical assessment.
Onana joined Trabzonspor after leaving Manchester United and has quickly established himself as one of the club’s key players.
Although the crash raised concerns among supporters, the positive medical update has eased fears, with the goalkeeper expected to resume normal activities in the coming days.
