Kompany Undergoes Medical Tests After Collapsing During Bayern Training Session

Vincent Kompany has been hospitalised after collapsing while watching Bayern Munich’s second team train at the club’s Säbener Straße facility on Friday.

The 40-year-old Belgian coach was immediately attended to before being taken by ambulance to a hospital in Munich, where he is reported to be in stable condition.

Bayern Munich confirmed the incident in a statement, saying Kompany would remain under medical care while undergoing further medical examinations.

The Bundesliga champions added that his coaching staff would temporarily take charge of training sessions and match preparations during his absence.

The health scare came only days after Kompany revealed he had been battling a severe viral infection but continued working despite feeling unwell.

After Bayern’s UEFA Champions League clash against Arsenal on Wednesday, the former Manchester City captain admitted he had ignored warning signs from his body.

“I caught a pretty nasty virus last week, and of course I didn’t listen to my body, and then at some point my body said: Stop now!” Kompany said.

Sporting director Max Eberl said the club’s immediate concern was the coach’s recovery, stressing that his assistants would oversee the team until he was fit to return.

Although Kompany’s collapse followed his recent illness, Bayern said no connection has yet been established between the viral infection and Friday’s medical emergency.

The club has not announced when the Bayern boss is expected to resume his duties, with further medical tests still ongoing.
