Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed that the suspension of three top national officers — Senator Samuel Anyanwu (National Secretary), Hon. Umar Bature (National Organising Secretary), and Barr. Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), National Legal Adviser — remains in full effect.
The party also dismissed claims by North Central Vice Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, describing him as “an impostor and illegitimate claimant” to the position of Acting National Chairman.
In a statement released on its official X handle, @OfficialPDPNig, on Friday, the party stressed that the decision underscores its “unwavering commitment to constitutional discipline and unity” as it prepares for its National Elective Convention, tagged #Ibadan2025, slated for November 15–16.
According to the PDP, the suspensions—imposed on November 1, 2025, following an emergency meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC)—were based on provisions of Sections 57(3), 58(1)(a)(b)(c)(h), and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017). The affected officials were accused of anti-party activities and gross misconduct, described by the party as “grave constitutional infractions detrimental to the PDP’s progress.”
The disciplinary measures, which also affect Deputy National Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha, will remain in place for one month pending further review by the National Disciplinary Committee.
“In view of the foregoing, the PDP has formally notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of these actions, ensuring compliance with the decision of the NWC, which the electoral body has acknowledged,” the statement read.
Reaffirming its unity under the leadership of Ambassador Umar Damagum, the party noted that 14 of 17 NWC members stand firm behind the current leadership, dismissing what it called a “charade” orchestrated by a few disgruntled elements.
“Anyanwu, Bature, Ajibade, and their co-conspirators, including the self-proclaimed ‘Acting Chairman’ Abdulrahman Mohammed, are illegitimate actors whose desperate maneuvers, fueled by personal ambitions and APC proxies, will not fracture the PDP’s resolve,” the party declared.
The PDP also confirmed that it has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the “violent invasion” linked to the crisis and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
With the countdown to the #Ibadan2025 National Convention underway, the party emphasized that these decisive actions are intended to safeguard its internal integrity and reaffirm its readiness for a united front ahead of the crucial gathering.
