Students of Philomath University on Thursday in Abuja staged a peaceful demonstration within the school premises to draw attention to concerns affecting their academic activities and hostel living conditions.
During the protest, the students presented a formal document outlining several requests to the institution’s management, calling for improvements in infrastructure and welfare services.
According to the document released at the protest ground, the students appealed for better classroom conditions, including functional air conditioners, improved ventilation, and a more organized academic system to support effective teaching and learning. They also requested urgent attention to hostel facilities, particularly issues relating to electricity supply, water availability, sewage leakages, and the renovation of bathrooms and accommodation blocks.
The students further expressed concerns about sanitation and environmental conditions around parts of the school environment, urging the management to take necessary steps to ensure a healthier atmosphere for learning and residence. In addition, they appealed for improved staff welfare and administrative measures that would promote a more peaceful relationship between lecturers and students.
Among the major demands highlighted were stable electricity, constant water supply, rehabilitation of hostel facilities, and the creation of a more conducive learning environment. The students maintained that their requests were aimed at improving their overall academic experience and welfare on campus.
The protest remained calm and orderly as students carried placards and submitted their concerns to the school authorities for consideration. As of the time of filing this report, the management of the institution had yet to issue an official response regarding the demands presented by the students.
