PSG Edge Bayern 5-4 in Thrilling Champions League Semi-Final Classic

Luis Enrique said he had never been part of a match like it after Paris Saint-Germain beat Bayern Munich 5-4 in a wild Champions League semi-final first leg in Paris.

“It’s been the BEST match I’ve been in as a manager. No doubts. Congrats everyone,” he said after full-time.

Bayern went ahead in the 17th minute when Harry Kane scored from the penalty spot after Luis Diaz was fouled in the box.

PSG responded in the 24th minute through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and took the lead in the 28th minute when Joao Neves headed in.

Michael Olise brought Bayern level in the 35th minute.

PSG went back in front just before half-time in the 45th minute through Ousmane Dembele from the penalty spot.

The game opened up badly after the restart.

Kvaratskhelia added his second in the 49th minute and Dembele scored again in the 54th minute to make it 5-2.

Bayern refused to go away. Dayot Upamecano scored in the 63rd minute and Luis Diaz added another in the 79th minute to bring it back to 5-4.

Both teams looked stretched at the back as the game broke apart late on, with chances at both ends and very little control.

The result leaves PSG with a narrow lead, but only just, heading into the second leg in Munich. Bayern will feel they are still fully in the tie after fighting back from 5-2 down, while PSG will know they let things get far closer than they should have.

With just one goal separating them and nine already scored, the return leg at the Allianz Arena is set up for another tense night.
