Rivers Police Remove DPO, Launch Probe Over Alleged Cultists’ Renovation of Police Outpost

The Rivers State Police Command has removed two senior officers and ordered a full investigation after reports that suspected cultists renovated the Abuloma Police Outpost in Port Harcourt.

The action followed a viral video showing people believed to be cult members celebrating the completion of the renovation at the police facility.

In a statement on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said it strongly condemned any action that could damage the image and integrity of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Command said police stations are public facilities meant to protect lives and enforce the law, not places where criminal groups should gain recognition.

It said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abuloma Division and the officer in charge of the affected outpost had been queried and relieved of their duties while the investigation continues.

The Police said the probe would determine who paid for the renovation, whether approval was obtained, and if any officer broke police rules or had links with the suspects.

It added that investigators would also identify those behind the project and determine the level of involvement of police personnel.

The Command explained that while communities can support the renovation of police facilities under the Nigeria Police Act, such support must follow due process and must not affect the independence or integrity of the Force.

It warned that “No donation or assistance confers immunity from investigation or prosecution.”

The Police assured residents that anyone found guilty would face disciplinary or legal action.

It urged members of the public to remain calm and continue supporting the police with useful information to fight cultism and other crimes across Rivers State.
