Senate appoints new Deputy Majority Leader and Chief Whip

The Senate has appointed the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator representing Kwara South, Lola Ashiru, as the new Deputy Majority Leader.

The upper legislative chamber also appointed the Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Nwebonyi Peter Onyeka, as the new Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the new appointments during plenary on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Senator Lola Ashiru, who was the former Deputy Chief Whip, replaces Senator David Umahi, who quit the Senate to pick up a ministerial appointment, while Senator Onyeka, who is also an APC member, replaces Ashiru as the new Deputy Chief Whip.
