President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, to allow them to continue ongoing reforms in their agencies.
The approval, announced in a statement on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Under the new arrangement, Nwakuche will now remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure has been extended until June 30, 2028.
According to the Presidency, the extension was approved to address a succession gap in both services and provide enough time for the appropriate authorities to appoint qualified successors.
President Tinubu praised both security chiefs for the reforms recorded under their leadership and urged them to build on the progress already made in strengthening the two agencies.
Nwakuche was nominated by President Tinubu as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024 and was confirmed by the Senate in March 2025.
Similarly, Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on February 21, 2024, before receiving Senate confirmation on March 1, 2024.
