Tinubu mourns Pope Francis: A humble servant of God, champion of the poor”

President Bola Tinubu has condoled the Catholic Church and the global community on the passing of Pope Francis, describing him as a “humble servant of God” and a “tireless champion of the poor.

In a statement released by the State House, Tinubu praised the late Pontiff’s commitment to justice, peace, and the dignity of every human person.

The President highlighted Pope Francis’ message of mercy, his advocacy for the marginalized, refugees, and migrants, and his call for nations to act with justice and protect the environment.

Tinubu also noted the Pope’s efforts to build bridges between faiths and communities, and his steadfast commitment to the developing world.

Tinubu recalled his own Easter message earlier this year, where he thanked God for the Pontiff’s recovery, and expressed sadness at his passing just a day after Easter.

The President called on Nigerians to honour the late Pope’s legacy by lifting those in need, healing communities, and defending human dignity.

On behalf of the Nigerian government and people, Tinubu extended condolences to the Catholic Church and the global Catholic community, praying that God grants the late Pontiff eternal rest.
