Tinubu our candidate for 2027, Fani-Kayode, Reno Omokri declare

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, have openly declared their support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, insisting that power must remain in Southern Nigeria in the interest of national balance and political stability.

In a joint statement issued on Friday, the duo said recent political developments across the country made it necessary for them to publicly affirm their position on the 2027 race.

According to them, sustaining the existing power-sharing arrangement between the North and South remains critical to preserving unity and stability in Nigeria’s democratic system.

“Our candidate and choice for the 2027 Presidential Elections is His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement read.

The two political figures argued that the informal power rotation principle, which has shaped Nigeria’s democratic experience since 1999, should be respected by all political actors.

They noted that Northern Nigeria had already enjoyed two uninterrupted terms of eight years under former President Muhammadu Buhari, adding that fairness and national cohesion demand that the South complete its own eight-year cycle.

“And that, after that tenure, it is the turn of Southern Nigeria to take and retain the baton of power for a commensurate period of time, to wit, two terms of four years each,” they stated.

The pair further described any attempt to return power to the North after only one term under Tinubu as “unpatriotic” and harmful to Nigeria’s unity and equilibrium.

“As such, we view it as unpatriotic and inimical to the unity, equilibrium, and progress of Nigeria for anyone to even conceive of power returning to Northern Nigeria after only one term of four years,” they added.

Fani-Kayode and Omokri also praised Tinubu’s economic reforms, claiming that his administration had recorded notable gains in economic growth, trade, and infrastructure development.

According to them, the Tinubu administration has delivered “12 cycles of GDP growth and trade surpluses,” while contributing significantly to Nigeria’s economic expansion.

The statement further claimed that Nigeria had become “the sixth largest contributor to global GDP growth in 2025.”

Highlighting ongoing infrastructure projects, the duo pointed to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Illela-Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, and the Trans-Saharan Road project as evidence of the administration’s commitment to national integration and economic development.

They said: “Finally, we call on all Nigerians, irrespective of region, religion, and communion, to join us and queue behind the present Presidency and future candidacy of President Bola Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Drawing a comparison with Switzerland’s political structure, the two men argued that power-sharing among diverse groups has helped maintain peace and stability in multi-ethnic societies.

“We urge the political class to note that the reason Switzerland has been stable, peaceful, and prosperous for the last 211 years is because that Alpine nation wisely introduced power sharing amongst its multiethnic population,” the statement added.

The duo expressed optimism that Nigeria could attain a $1 trillion economy by 2031 if Tinubu secures a second term and continues his current policies.

“To re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a task that must be done,” they declared.
