The United States has published a list of people set to be deported from the country, with 124 Nigerians among them.
In a post on its website, the Department of Homeland Security said that the affected individuals committed various crimes.
They were placed on what the agency described as its “worst-of-the-worst” criminal register, with their names and photos also published on the website.
“The US Department of Homeland Security is highlighting the worst of the worst criminal aliens arrested by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE),” the post published on Wednesday read in part.
“Under DHS leadership, the hard-working men and women of DHS and ICE are fulfilling President Trump’s promise and carrying out mass deportations – starting with the worst of the worst – including the illegal aliens you see here.”
However, the timeline for their deportations was not stated in the publication.
According to the US agency, the deportations are part of immigration enforcement.
Those on the list were convicted of serious crimes ranging from assault to fraud by wire.
The list also includes people from other countries like Cuba, Cameroon, Niger, Togo, Burkina Faso, Mexico, and Honduras.
The development is the latest in the immigration enforcement moves by the government of President Donald Trump, who came in for a second term on January 20, 2025.
Since his return to the Oval Office, Trump has made a series of moves to clamp down on illegal immigration.
He has also directed authorities to intensify border control and the removal of undocumented persons in the US.
In June, the Trump administration imposed a partial visa restriction on Nigerians over visa overstays and other issues.
At least 60 people have been deported to Ghana since September.
But some lawyers last month filed a suit against Ghana at Africa’s top human rights court on behalf of deportees sent there under the United States’ third-country deportation policies.
