We’ll expedite implementation of electronic cargo tracking system – Customs boss

Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it is expediting implementation of its Electronic Cargo Tracking System (ECTS) to enhance its operations.

Its Comptroller-General, Mr Adewale Adeniyi, made this known via a statement by Abdullahi Maiwada, NCS National Public Relations Officer, on Saturday in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ECTS is a web-based solution used to provide real-time monitoring of transit cargo under customs control.

Adeniyi said that Information Communication Technology (ICT), would be used to harness the requisite internal resources to speed up the execution.

“It is imperative that we modernise every facet of the Customs Enforcement Ecosystem. We must also integrate technology to fortify our operations,” he said.

He reiterated the commitment of NCS in leveraging technology to streamline its operation and emphasised the importance of engaging stakeholders to ensure the seamless execution of the project.

“In 2024, we cannot afford to remain entrenched in outdated practices. Stakeholders are demanding a Customs Service that embraces technology to enhance efficiency and transparency,” he said.
