Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the country’s security situation, saying Nigerians deserve the same protection as the President’s campaign billboards.
In a post on his verified X account on Friday, Atiku said it was troubling that security personnel were guarding Tinubu’s billboards in Kaduna while many communities remained under attack.
He said bandits continue to raid villages, terrorists attack communities, and many families still live in fear across the country.
According to Atiku, the situation reflects what he described as the government’s misplaced priorities.
He urged President Tinubu to protect Nigerians with the same urgency used to protect his political image.
The former presidential candidate’s comments come amid continued concerns over banditry, terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes in different parts of Nigeria.
The Tinubu administration has repeatedly said security agencies are intensifying operations against criminal groups nationwide.
Government officials have also maintained that several criminal camps have been dismantled and many suspects arrested during recent operations.
However, opposition leaders and civil society organisations insist that stronger measures are needed to improve security across the country.
They argued that many Nigerians still live under the constant threat of attacks despite ongoing military efforts.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency had not issued any official response to Atiku’s remarks.
