The remains of 57-year-old Mrs. Jamiu Sikirat was recovered from a well by men of the Kwara State Fire Service on Monday, in Ilorin, the state capital.

Sikirat, who until her fall to death hailed from Ile-Agunko compound of Adeta area, in the Ilorin West Local Government Area, fell into the well on Monday evening around 6:42 pm.

Hassan Adekunle, spokesman for the state fire service, said they were alerted to the incident through a telephone call by one Mr. Muhammad Jamiu, a resident in the area where the unfortunate incident occurred.

He informed that “Firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Alfa Abdulganiyu Akuko, a family member of the deceased, in the presence of Nigerian police officers from Adewole Division Ilorin.”

It was reported that the late Sikirat went to fetch some water from the well when one of her legs tripped, and she fell her into the well.

The Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed sadness over the matter.

Olumuyiwa advised the general public to be mindful of their daily activities and avoid sending children to fetch water from wells.
