Mbappe Breaks France Goal Record in 3-1 World Cup Win Over Senegal

Kylian Mbappe became France’s all-time leading scorer on Tuesday as Les Bleus defeated Senegal 3-1 in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The France captain scored twice in the Group I clash to move to 58 international goals, surpassing Olivier Giroud’s previous record of 57.

After a goalless first half, France took the lead in the 66th minute through Mbappe, who finished off a move created by Michael Olise.

France doubled their advantage six minutes from time when Bradley Barcola found the net after coming off the bench.

Senegal pulled a goal back in stoppage time through Ibrahim Mbaye and briefly threatened to set up a tense finish.

However, Mbappe struck again moments later to make it 3-1 and put the result beyond doubt while also sealing his place at the top of France’s scoring charts.

The win gives Didier Deschamps’ side a positive start to their World Cup campaign and puts them in a strong position in Group I.

For Mbappe, the night belonged to him. The 27-year-old now stands alone as the highest goalscorer in the history of the French national team, adding another milestone to an already remarkable international career.

France will face Iraq in their second group game, while Senegal take on Norway as both teams continue their quest for a place in the knockout stage.
