Arsenal are through to the UEFA Champions League final for only the second time in the club’s history after defeating Atlético Madrid 1-0 at the Emirates to seal a 2-1 aggregate victory in the semi-finals.
Bukayo Saka scored the winning goal in the 64th minute as Mikel Arteta’s side booked their first Champions League final appearance since 2006.
The result also kept Arsenal unbeaten in Europe this season, with the Gunners now going 14 matches without defeat in the competition.
Arsenal’s run to the final has been built on a solid defensive record, with Arteta’s side keeping nine clean sheets and conceding only six goals so far.
The home side created the clearer chances across the game, while Atlético Madrid struggled to find a breakthrough despite late pressure in the closing stages.
Arsenal held on comfortably in the final minutes to cap another huge European night in North London.
The Gunners will now face either Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich in the final, with both sides battling for the remaining place in the showdown.
For Atlético Madrid, the defeat also looked like the end of Antoine Griezmann’s Champions League journey with the club.
The French forward is believed to have played his final Champions League match in Atlético colours after years of memorable performances under Diego Simeone.
Griezmann was one of the key figures during Atlético’s rise in Europe, helping the Spanish side compete regularly against the continent’s biggest clubs.
But this night belonged to Arsenal, who are now one win away from a first-ever Champions League title.
